Frequently asked questions

Answers to what we get asked the most.

Registration

What do I need in order to rent?

To be 18 or over, with an ID and a valid driving licence covering motorcycles, valid for the whole rental period. A name and a phone number are enough to order online — your documents are checked at the office before your Bee is handed over. No credit check.

How does signing the agreement work?

As soon as you pay, you get your receipt by email and WhatsApp: it confirms the amount paid and reserves your Bee. The agreement itself is prepared at the office — your Beekeeper fills it in with your ID documents, then you read it through together before signing, on the tablet or on paper, whichever you prefer. The signed agreement is sent to you immediately by email and WhatsApp. Handing over the Bee is a second moment: we record its condition together, with photos, and you ride away. If you collect the same day the two run on in one visit; for a fleet, the signing can happen weeks before collection. Your rental starts at the handover, not at the signature.

How long is my booking held if I have not paid yet?

An order paid by Wave is held for 48 hours. We send you a reminder after 24 hours, and without payment the order is then cancelled automatically — you are told by email and WhatsApp, and nothing is charged to you. An order whose start date has passed, or whose card was declined, is cancelled straight away. After a cancellation, do not use the payment link you were sent: if you pay anyway, we refund you. For a business or long-term offer the deadline is longer — see the next question.

I accepted an offer for several Bees — how is my reservation held?

By a reservation fee of D2,500. Until it is paid the vehicles stay on sale and another customer can take them — a verbal agreement holds nothing. Once it is paid the vehicles come off sale and you have 7 days to sign the agreement and pay the deposit. We warn you 2 days before the deadline; without settlement the vehicles go back to other customers. That deadline is about the reservation, not about your start date: an offer accepted for a start three weeks away still has to be settled within 7 days. If your transfer is on its way, tell us and we will extend it. The fee is not a second deposit: it is handed back to you on the day you collect your vehicles.

Can businesses rent a fleet of Bees?

Yes, and it is a conversation rather than a checkout: booking online sells one vehicle only. From two Bees upwards, fill in the form on the Business page: a Beekeeper calls you back within 1 business day with a priced offer. The rate depends on the vehicle, the coverage, the term and how many Bees: the larger the fleet and the longer the commitment, the lower the rent per Bee. Your reservation is then held by a D2,500 reservation fee, which is handed back to you at collection.

Using your Bee

What's the real-world range?

Around 80 km per charge on the E-Rider, depending on load and traffic. Two swappable batteries are possible for heavier days. Each vehicle's range is given on its own card. ⚠ The E-Bike CPX's has not been measured yet: ask your Beekeeper before booking if it decides it for you.

What if my Bee breaks down?

Your Beekeeper answers 7 days a week on WhatsApp. Maintenance and wear parts are included in your rate — we tell you when it's due and arrange the workshop visit. If the Bee is off the road for a reason that isn't your doing, we repair it at no cost and provide a replacement Bee subject to availability; if none is available, your monthly rate is suspended pro rata for those days. Our assistance covers Greater Banjul; beyond it, the call-out and recovery of the vehicle are at your expense. Never leave the Bee unattended: a Bee abandoned and then stolen stays your responsibility. And it must not leave The Gambia — our insurance and our assistance stop at the border.

Can someone else ride my Bee?

Yes, if you declare them. A second rider is added for D2,080, once — at checkout or at the office. They come in with their ID and licence and sign the contract with you: it is the signature that authorises them. A business declares all of its riders the same way. ⚠ Lending the Bee to someone undeclared costs D5,000 AND removes your liability cap: you then answer for the full damage, up to the vehicle's replacement value. Declaring costs little; not declaring costs a lot.

Payment

What if I cannot pay a rent on time?

Talk to us — that is all it takes. Lateness is counted from your rent due date, whatever you pay with: first a reminder, then a call from a Beekeeper from day 4. On the 8th day late we send you a warning (in writing or by phone) with the amount owed and the deadline, and a D2,080 fee becomes applicable — but if you call or message us and agree a firm payment date, that fee is not owed and the deadline moves to that date (one date per late period). If it is still unpaid at the deadline, the vehicle is recovered and the rental ends on the day it comes back to us; days kept after the recovery has started are charged at the late-return daily rate, the unpaid rent remains owed, and if your rental was a 6- or 12-month commitment the early-termination indemnity of two months' rent is also due — the same amount as if you had asked to leave. Your deposit is applied against these when the vehicle comes back, in order: rent, then indemnity, then fee; the balance is then claimed from you or returned to you. While any amount is owed you cannot book online: speak to a Beekeeper. A customer who talks to us does not lose their Bee.

Is there a deposit?

Yes, a deposit applies. The amount depends on the coverage you choose and the vehicle, and it is shown on the coverage step when you book. On a MONTHLY rental it is paid online, together with your first month and in a single payment: it is what reserves your Bee. On a DAILY rental it is handed to your Beekeeper when you collect. On a rental agreed with a Beekeeper (offer or counter), it is paid at signing. Either way it is returned at the end of the contract, less anything you owe.

How does a company pay its rent each month?

By bank transfer, which is the recommended method on a long term: you receive an invoice a week before each rent date, due on that date, quoting your contract reference on the transfer. Wave and card remain available. On a contract longer than 3 years, avoid card: it usually expires before the contract ends and the automatic charge stops part-way through.

What deposit applies to a fleet?

One month's rent per Bee, half that on Protected coverage, and capped at 10 Bees — so a 20-Bee fleet leaves only the equivalent of 10. That is well below a monthly rental: the longer the commitment, the less of your cash we tie up. The exact amount is on your offer, before anything is signed.

How can I pay?

By card or Wave; in cash or by bank transfer at the office. Card payments are taken by United Energies AG (Switzerland), the parent company; Wave, cash and transfers are received by Volta Move Gambia. On Monthly Rental, later months are charged automatically if you pay by card, otherwise we send you a payment link. On Daily Rental everything is paid at checkout and nothing is charged afterwards.

Is my Bee tracked by GPS?

Yes. Every Bee carries a GPS tracker and, depending on the model, a remote immobilization device. We use it to recover a stolen Bee, come to you after a breakdown, and check what happened after an incident. We don't track your journeys for commercial purposes and we never sell the data. If rent is still unpaid at the deadline set by a warning, we can disable the ignition on a vehicle fitted for it — never on a moving Bee, only once it's stopped, and it starts again as soon as the payment arrives. See section 10 of the rental terms.

What does the Flexible cancellation option do?

You add it to a daily rental for D80 per booked day, and it lets you cancel up to 2 hours before the agreed collection time with a full refund — apart from the option's own price, which is kept. Without it, a daily booking is not refundable at all.

Insurance & incidents

How am I insured?

The compulsory third-party motor policy is taken out and paid for by MayBe MyBee on every Bee, included in your rate: you need to arrange nothing of your own to ride. It covers harm caused to others, but not the Bee itself. Two levels exist, chosen at checkout: Basic, included, where accidental damage stays with you capped at D66,700 per vehicle returned; and Protected, at its own rate, which lowers that cap to D6,220. Protected is not insurance — it is our own undertaking to absorb the cost above the cap. THEFT is covered by neither level. See section 8 of the rental terms.

What should I do after an accident?

Report it within 48 hours — even with no third party involved and no visible damage. By WhatsApp, by phone, or with the form at mybee.africa/gm/accident (no account needed). After that the insurer can decline cover, and the liability comes back to you. If anyone's hurt or there is a disagreement, file a police report too. Your Beekeeper takes it from there. The condition record made at handover is the reference that separates new damage from ordinary wear.

Ending your contract

How many days is a month of rental?

Thirty, always. A 6-month commitment runs 180 days and a 12-month one 360, whatever date you start on: you pay for the same length of time whether you begin in February or in July. Later payments fall every 30 days, not on the same day of the month. Your exact end date is on your order summary and on your agreement.

Does my monthly rental renew by itself?

No commitment (1 month): yes. Your rental carries on from one month to the next, at the same rate, until you stop it — there is nothing to do to continue, and you keep the Bee. To stop it, write to us before your next payment date: we confirm the last day of your rental in writing. With a 6- or 12-month commitment, on Daily Rental and on Long-Term Rental there is no renewal at all: the rental ends at its term.

Can I stop before the end?

No commitment (1 month): yes, with no charge — but do tell us. Your rental renews by itself from one month to the next, so bringing the Bee back without telling us does not stop it. A message before your next payment date is enough: we confirm the last day in writing, nothing is charged after it, and the Bee is due back that day. On a 6- or 12-month commitment: as long as the rental has not started, the rent comes back in full and only the deposit can be held back, according to the notice you gave. Once it has started, returning early carries a flat charge of two months' rent, taken from the deposit first. Either way, the period already paid is not refunded pro rata. On a Long-Term Rental, your signed contract's terms apply.

What if I pay and never collect the Bee?

It depends on your plan, not on how you booked. Monthly or Long-Term: as long as the rental has not started, the rent is refunded in full. Only the deposit can be held back, and that depends on notice: 30 days or more before the start, nothing; 8 to 29 days, 25 %; in the last 7 days, 50 %. If you never come, you have 7 days after the start date and we remind you by email and WhatsApp; after that the reservation is closed, the deposit is kept in full (with the reservation fee on an offer), and the rent you paid is returned — the vehicle was never handed over. Daily Rental: there is one way to cancel, the Flexible cancellation option, which refunds everything apart from its own price up to 2 hours before collection. Without it a daily booking is not refundable, and if you never collect the rent is kept — the Bee was held for you and nobody else could rent it. It stays held at most until the last day you booked. Those waiting days never extend a rental when you do come to collect — the days gone are then still owed.

I signed for several Bees and have to cancel before the start. What happens?

What we keep from your deposit depends on the notice you give us. 30 days or more before the start date: nothing, the deposit is returned in full. 8 to 29 days: 25 %. In the final week: 50 %. The boundary day counts in your favour — cancelling exactly 30 days out is still free. What we keep comes out of the deposit: it is never a further sum to pay, you simply receive a reduced refund. The reservation fee is kept. ⚠ This notice scale is not specific to offers: it is the general rule, and it applies to any Monthly or Long-Term rental whose deposit has already been paid, whatever the channel you booked through. What IS specific to a rental agreed by offer is the reservation fee and the 7-day signing deadline. Daily Rental keeps its own rules.

How do I actually cancel?

Message us on WhatsApp or email with your order reference (GM-XXXX) — that is the only cancellation channel, on every plan. The time your message reaches us is what counts against the deadlines, not when we reply. Any refund is processed within 5 business days, back to the payment method you used.

What happens if I keep the Bee after the contract ends?

That assumes your rental has an end — with no commitment it renews, and there is no overrun until you have stopped it. On a 6- or 12-month commitment, or after the stop date agreed with you: your rental does NOT roll over into another whole month, it continues day by day until you bring the Bee back. Every day started is owed, at your vehicle's standard no-commitment rate divided by 30 — six days late costs six days. We tell you 7 days beforehand, by email and WhatsApp. If you are going to run over, just tell us: a message is enough and you pay only the days used. If we hear nothing, a D2,080 penalty is added — it is for the silence, not for the delay.
